Irrational thoughts in the night?

If you’re being woken up in the middle of the night by terrifying, irrational thoughts then this post will give you 3 strategies you can use to get back to your sleep.

Almost everyone has experienced this at some point in their lives. It happens.

“How am I gonna clear all the debt?”

“Is my family gonna be okay?”

These are the some of the thoughts racing in my head in the middle of the night and it’s exhausting physically and mentally. But no more worries because I’ve come up with 3 strategies to help me relax that doesn’t involve my phone and yes for real 🙂 .

Three strategies which helps me calm down and eventually drift back to sleep.

1. Tell yourself that these are pointless thoughts

The reason why we don’t get these racing thoughts in daytime is because there is always something to do such as playing and studying and reading etc..

So if we aren’t careful our mind will go crazy. Just tell yourself these thoughts are absurd.

2. Write it down

If some of those thoughts are somehow useful to you just write it down. It empties your mind instantly.

“There’s nothing makes you instantly calmer like dumping out what’s on your mind.”

TIP: Have a notebook and pen on your bedside, so you don’t take out your phone and get lured into a 30 minute social media affair.

3. Take some slow deep breaths

Just close your eyes and take 20 slow and deep breaths and visualizing an image of something calm (sea shore or beautiful garden with full of colourful flowers) can put you back to sleepy mode. Try it out!
