Here’s what to do when you’re stressed

what to do when you're stressed

We all have experienced stress every now and then. Stress is not bad and in fact stress is essential.

However,

Having too much Stress is harmful to our well-being. So from now on whenever you feel stressed, just follow these 4 steps and you’re good to go.

1. Look for quality support not the complainers.

Whenever you’re stressed finding someone to talk it out is really helpful.

However,

“When stressful things happen, we often turn to others for support, which can be effective solution but it can also backfire”

When you wanna talk about it be selective of whom you’re talking to because you don’t want to turn to someone who might fan the flames of your frustration, which can lead to you feeling more stressed than you were when you spoke to them in the first place.

“Don’t spend time with a person (or group of people) who continuously complain”

Because we’re susceptible to the moods that permeate the social circles we spend our time in.

This works with positive emotions as well as negative emotions.

2. Prepare yourself rather than avoiding whatever is stressing you out.

Avoiding things that cause us stress may seem like a good idea. But it’s important to remember that avoidance doesn’t actually do anything about your stress, it just postpones it.

avoiding stressor may seem like a relief but the truth is it typically remains or increases

Instead,

Prepare yourself and have some strategies in place to handle whatever is stressing you out whenever it comes up.

3. Treat yourself but don’t self-sabotage.

🍔🍟 might be exactly what you need, but 🍟🍟🍟? That’d probably overkill.

There’s nothing wrong with having a treat, as long as you’re considering what will actually make you feel better.

If the pizza🍕 will, then go for it. If a walk🚶🏻‍♂️outside will better clear your head, try that instead.

Find what feels good, what suits your individual needs in that moment, and go from there. Just make sure you’re not overdoing it.

4. Go for a nap and avoid alcohol.

Take a nap and get back to whatever that’s stressing you out with a clear mind and physically rejuvenated.

Using alcohol to numb stress instead of dealing with it is a bad idea.

Whatever situation is causing the stress will still be there in the morning, unhandled and exacerbated with a HANGOVER

It limits your ability to be aware and present with your deeper desires and needs that could be taken care of in a healthy and soothing way.

“Whatever situation is causing the stress will still be there in the morning, unhandled and exacerbated with a hangover.”

Key Takeaway:

Here’s what to do when you’re stressed.

1. Look for quality support not the complainers.

2. Prepare yourself rather than avoiding whatever is stressing you out.

3. Treat yourself but don’t self-sabotage.

4. Go for a nap and avoid alcohol.

There’s a fine line between self-care and self-sabotage, and while these activities might be exactly what you need, overdoing it could be causing more harm than good.

Try to be intentional about what you’re doing to reduce stress in your life because the last thing you needs is to accidentally make it worse for yourself.
